We are learning about all of the different holidays around the world and in Germany, they have fun with making gingerbread houses. Room 117 did a twist on the gingerbread house and instead, made gingerbread trees!

All school year, we have been having a lot of fun in Room 117! It is my hope that each child is making many fun-filled memories of their year in first grade. See the pictures below for all of the fun they've been having!
This school year, we have been meeting weekly with our 3rd grade reading buddies from Ms. Maguire's class. During the month of November, we have done many hands on activities together. We have written letters to our Veterans and we have made thankful turkeys saying what we are thankful for. Look for pictures monthly showing what we are doing with our reading buddies!
Each school day, students are able to earn classroom dollars for good behavior choices, being a friend, helping others, or trying their best on their work. They learn responsibility by having to hold on to their classroom dollars throughout the year. Check out the pictures to see some of the students shopping at our most recent Dr. Seuss store!
Room 117 Students were able to get into groups and decorate their pumpkin according to their assigned "fall" book. Each group had to read their book together and discuss how they were going to decorate their pumpkin according to the main character of the story. The students LOVED it, and the pumpkins turned out great!
What an EXCITING week this is: our class field trip and our long awaited Halloween party! The students have been talking about what they were going to be for Halloween for at least a month now! :) They had a very, very fun time at the Halloween party and we would like to say THANK YOU to our room parent volunteers who spent a lot of time planning our party for us!
Also, all of the teachers at Brodnicki school got in to the Halloween spirit and participated in a staff Halloween costume contest! Each grade level or group of teachers came up with a theme to dress up as- everyone looked so good! Congrats to the teachers who dressed up as Dunkin Donuts! They were this year's winners! It was the day that we were waiting for all year.... our Brookfield Zoo Field Trip! Prior to our trip, we had been learning about animal families. We read books, watched videos, had partner talks, created a book, and broke into research groups to look up facts about individual animal families. The students loved learning about this topic. There were a lot of pictures taken on this fun filled day, so enjoy the pictures below.
Ms. Krejci, our assistant principal, wanted a special way to thank our principal, Dr. Doogan during a special week to honor principals. She asked all of the students of Brodnicki School to write a special message or draw a special picture for Ms. Doogan on a Post It. She then collected all of the Post Its from the classes and covered Dr. Doogan's office with the Post Its as a surprise. When Ms. Doogan saw her office for the first time, she was very grateful to work at such a special school! Thank you, Ms. Doogan (And Ms. Krejci!). We love you both!
After Ms. Doogan saw her office, she invited classes down to see the final product! Brodnicki School holds an annual Grandparents' Bingo event, where all students and their grandparents are welcome to attend. The event is held at night, where there is dinner, refreshments, the book fair, and prizes. A few students from Room 117 attended, and they all had a very good time!
This year, Room 117 is pairing with Ms. Maguire's 3rd grade class for reading buddies. The kids were so very excited to meet their buddy for the first time. Today, the first and third graders interviewed each other, and tried to get to know each other. Fun was had by all!
